Nothing compares to the disturbance of an alarm clock at five o’clock in the morning. But when the alarm call is the sound of a male lion roaring close to the lodge, it becomes one of the most exhilarating experiences ever!
An Early Start to an Action-Packed Morning
Knowing the general direction of the lion, I quickly set off to wake the guests for an early start to our morning game drive. Thanks to good fortune, I picked up the tracks of a lioness and her two youngsters. This discovery had everyone in the vehicle buzzing with excitement, expecting an action-packed morning.
A Rewarding Sight: The Lioness and Her Cubs
With full concentration and focus, I followed the tracks, and suddenly, we were rewarded by the sight of the lioness walking ahead of us on the road. Shortly thereafter, her two youngsters made their appearance, jumping out of the scrub in an attempt to startle their mother. Their efforts were in vain, however, as the lioness calmly continued walking another 100 meters or so before finding a comfortable spot under a Syringa tree to rest.
A Morning of Playful Interactions
We spent some time observing the little family, laughing at the interactions between the three of them as they jumped over one another, playfully biting and scratching.
Waking up early has never been more of a pleasure than it was today!
