We are situated within the malaria-free Welgevonden Game Reserve in the beautiful Waterberg District of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. This prime location is highly accessible, requiring only a 2-hour and 45-minute drive from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. For a faster arrival, you can choose a breathtaking flight of under an hour, soaring directly over the Waterberg and Welgevonden Game Reserve to our local airstrip.

Your stay at Mhondoro includes luxury accommodation, daily housekeeping, all meals, and a selection of beverages including teas, coffees, juices, local branded beers, and hand-selected house wines. The rate covers two expert-led safari activities per day, such as open-vehicle game drives or intimate bush walks. Free Wi-Fi throughout the lodge and villa, secure parking, and scheduled return transfers from the Welgevonden Main Gate or Airstrip are also included. Premium liquors, reserve wines, reserve gate levies, spa treatments, and child-minding services are excluded.

Mhondoro is perfectly suited for families, couples, and discerning travelers seeking a private, exclusive, and luxurious safari experience. Unlike our remote Overland Safaris, the Main Lodge and Villa are highly family-friendly and situated in a malaria-free zone. We offer a safe, gated kids' playground, professional child-minding services, and special 'bumble drives' for children under six. Simultaneously, the peaceful atmosphere, strict limits on reserve vehicle traffic, and our extensive wellness facilities make it an ideal, undisturbed retreat for adults looking to relax and connect with nature.

Scheduled return transfers from the Welgevonden Main Gate or the Welgevonden Airstrip are included in your stay, provided they align with our standard arrival time (12h30 to 13h00) and departure time (11h00). If your schedule requires flexibility, private transfers outside of these normal hours can be arranged for an additional fee per vehicle. For the ultimate convenience, we also offer private, one-way overland transfers directly from Gauteng (O.R. Tambo International Airport) to the lodge.

Our exclusive Spa Suite features a large viewing deck overlooking the waterhole, providing a quiet space to unwind while passing wildlife becomes part of your treatment experience. Guests also have access to a fully equipped gym with waterhole views, an adjacent sauna, and our unique saltwater pool—a natural approach that is gentle on the skin and unexpectedly popular with elephants who frequently prefer it over the nearby waterhole.

We include a selection of teas, coffees, juices, local branded beers, and hand-selected house wines. For those wishing to elevate their dining experience further, premium brand spirits, specialized liquors, and an extensive selection of reserve wines are available for purchase from the Main Lodge’s temperature-controlled wine cellar.

Yes, in a way few places in the world can offer. Mhondoro's heated saltwater pools sit right on the edge of the lodge's watering hole, and wild elephants regularly wander up to the deck to drink straight from the pool while guests are swimming just feet away. It's not a staged or guided "swim-with" experience; it's a genuine, unscripted encounter with wild elephants in their natural habitat. Sightings are most frequent in the dry winter months (May to September), when animals gather around water sources.
