Living in the bush, you have no choice but to adapt quickly to challenges that are vastly different from what you’d encounter in the city. Here at Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa, these challenges often come with a touch of wonder and excitement, especially when it comes to our resident elephants.
A Typical Day at the Mhondoro Curio Shop and Office
The Mhondoro Curio shop and office seem to be a favorite lunch spot for some of our camp’s gentle giants. On this particular day, two male elephants decided to spend over two hours feeding right outside the office door, which leads to the star-gazing deck. We’ve become so accustomed to elephants blocking our way that we’ve simply learned to work around them.
As we continued chatting with guests and colleagues, we noticed that the elephants would occasionally stop feeding and seem to be listening to us. One of them, in particular, would lower his head slightly, almost as if he was trying to get a better look at what we were doing. It was a small but fascinating moment, reminding us once again how remarkable elephants are.
Living Close to Nature’s Wonders
Living this close to these magnificent creatures is a true privilege. Each day brings new surprises and reinforces the deep connection we share with the wildlife around us. Whether it’s an elephant peering in to see what we’re up to or simply the peaceful coexistence we’ve established, life in the bush is nothing short of extraordinary.
