Driving through the southern part of the Welgevonden Reserve, we set out in search of the spotted speedster—the cheetah. After some time, with nearly all hope lost, we turned a corner and were met with an incredible sight: a mother cheetah and her two cubs feasting on a common reedbuck.
A Fresh Kill: Witnessing the Speed and Skill of a Cheetah
Everyone was in awe of this remarkable scene. We quickly realized how recent the kill must have been, as another vehicle had passed through the same area just 40 minutes earlier. Known as the fastest animal on the planet, this mother cheetah had managed to chase down and take her prey in one of the most challenging terrains—a rocky, tree-filled area, an unexpected place for a cheetah kill. It’s almost incomprehensible to imagine such efficient hunting skills. Yet, with sheer determination and commitment to ensuring her cubs’ next meal, she achieved the unexpected.
