Magical Spots

Cheetahs are beautiful creatures, known for their stunning ‘tear drop’ facial markings, lean and graceful bodies, and long, flat, rudder-like tails. Remarkably, they can accelerate from zero to 60 km/h with just 30 feet of runway! Unfortunately, they are also critically endangered, with fewer than 10,000 believed to remain.

Cheetah Conservation in Welgevonden Game Reserve

Here in Welgevonden Game Reserve, we are fortunate to have a thriving population of cheetahs. With current numbers standing at 15, the species is flourishing and continuing to grow. Guests at Mhondoro Safari Lodge are regularly treated to sightings of these majestic animals, whether right in front of the lodge—sometimes even witnessing a kill—or out on the grasslands of the South or the plains in the central area of the reserve.

Experience the Cheetahs in Their Natural Habitat

Welgevonden is a true Garden of Eden, making it the ideal place to observe cheetahs in their natural environment. Perhaps you too will have the chance to see these incredible animals on your next visit here.
