The Hunting Cheetah

We had been searching for the cheetah and her two cubs for a few days. My guests were eager to spot her, as she is a favorite among everyone, including myself. This cheetah has an incredible ability to survive against all odds. She’s an expert at evading lions and always seems to come out on top, no matter the situation.

A Determined Search Pays Off

Over three days, we occasionally spotted male cheetahs, one of which was the father of her beautiful cubs. While these sightings were spectacular, our focus remained firmly on finding her. One morning, Evan and I decided to split the safari group into two. He would lead a walk, and I would continue with the drive. We wanted to maximize our search area and cast our net as wide as possible. Just two hours into our drive and Evan’s walk, we picked up her fresh tracks about 500 meters from the western airstrip—a very promising sign!

Witnessing the Hunt

Only five minutes later, we found her in full hunting mode! Our eyes were glued to her and her potential prey. Suddenly, we remembered that Evan and the other guests were still on foot, heading straight towards her! Fortunately, I managed to contact Evan, and we decided to hold back a bit to avoid scaring her off. Although her hunting attempt was unsuccessful and the day was getting hotter, the mother cheetah called her two cubs, and they promptly settled under a large tree.

We proceeded to pick up Evan and his walking party, and together we enjoyed this extraordinary sighting. After tracking her for so many days, it was a privilege to finally find her. I knew our guests would never forget this amazing day.
